2024 continues to be one of broken records for our climate - responding to the climate crisis is now one of the most important projects for the future of the Isle of Man and our planet. Therefore there is a growing green job market in all sectors and here in the Isle of Man. We want to raise awareness of climate change at all stages of education and ensure learning and training are available that prepares students for the low carbon economy of the future.

Dark or Light Green Jobs!

There are technical roles specific to the growing the green economy in areas of energy to engineering, buildings and construction to more traditional nature-based and conservation roles. There is an ever-growing opportunity in the business and finance sectors as more take on ESG (environmental, social governance) initiatives and have responsibilities to report on their impact. However, all jobs can be green if you have a sustainability mindset, you want to learn more about how to operate more sustainably and put learnings into action.

Important Non-STEM skills

The Green Jobs Taskforce (2021) highlighted project management, change management, leadership, education management and communication skills as vital non-STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) skills required for the transition to net zero carbon by 2050. Technological developments also demand enhanced digital and data skills in the workforce.
