COP-26, Glasgow

COP-26 (Conference of Parties) is taking place in Glasgow from 31st October – 12th November 2021.

For nearly three decades, the UN has been bringing together almost every country on Earth for this global climate summit, and in that time, climate change has gone from being a fringe issue to a global priority.

This year will be the 26th annual summit – giving it the name COP-26.

Isle of Man will be represented at this summit, read here for details.

COP-26 goals:

  • secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach
  • adapt to protect communities and natural habitats
  • mobilise finance
  • work together to deliver.

On-island programme

Climate change does not respect borders. We all share the same planet, so we must all do what we can to restore our balance with nature, and we can only rise to the challenges of this crisis by working collaboratively.

That’s why Net Zero Isle of Man, together with our stakeholders, will be running a programme of activities here on the Isle of Man during COP-26 to raise awareness of the importance of this international conference and climate change action on our Island.

Join us in this series of insightful events and community activities, where you will discover how climate change has impacted our Island and its biodiversity.

You will find out where the Island is on its journey towards net zero, hear inspiring stories of individuals who have made positive steps to tackle climate change and learn what you can do to save our planet.

Below is our programme of events, and we hope you can join us! If you would like to watch the recording of the webinars below, you can do so on our YouTube channel.

Tree-planting activity, by the Woodland Trust

Tree-planting activity

The Isle of Man Woodlands Trust is organising a tree-planting session which is open for the public.

  • Date: Sunday 7th of November
  • Time: 10.30 am (2 - 3 hours)
  • Difficulty: Medium + 10 minute walk to site
  • Location: Foxdale, close to Cross Vein mine.

A 10-minute walk to the site over uneven terrain is involved but the rugged beauty of the high altitude gives a nice contrast to other planting sites.

You will have the opportunity to plant a mix of predominantly Manx native species in slightly sloped terrain. The trees are selected for the higher altitude.

For details here (registration not required).
